About the Book
The Book of Holiness is the fifth book in the “Mishne Torah” it deals rules against incest and certain foods.
The book begins with forbidden sexual relations, continues to laws of Nida, from there to assimilation (usually following of the sin sexual relations with a gentile) to conversion and prohibited marriages.The book continues onwards to deal with forbbiden foods, preparation of foods and shechitah.
The elucidation of the book has many illustrations, diagrams and a 16 page appendix of colorful pictures(!) and it is considered a big hiddush in simplifying the laws in the Book of Holiness.
Structure of the Book:
The Laws of Issurei Biah:
The ban of assimilating among non-Jews, and thus deal with gerim and the conversion processes, and the way of purity and holiness in light of the occasional obstacles caused by man’s lust.
The Laws of Forbidden Foods:
The foods that you are allowed to eat, to a list of animals that are kosher and descriptions of the parts that may be eaten and the processes food goes through until giulei goyim and their cooking.
The Laws of Shechitah:
As an appendix to the forbidden foods the correct technique of shechitah is described, included are the mitzvahs that are intended to develop feelings for animals and honoring them from Gods mitzvahs.
